The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal early-morning shooting in the Five Points area that left 30-year-old Austin Purkey dead and resulted in the arrest of a suspect. The incident occurred on May 6, 2026, in the 400 block of Taylor Homes Road shortly after 3 a.m., according to preliminary law enforcement reports.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire discovered Purkey outside an apartment complex suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the lower body. Emergency medical personnel provided immediate lifesaving treatment at the scene before transporting him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
